Major Marie Burden commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant Human Resources Officer in May 2003. After attending Officer Basic Course in October 2003, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, she was assigned to HHC, 101st SSB, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) at Fort Campbell where she immediately deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom serving as an Assistant Security and Operations Officer. Upon returning from Iraq, she also served in other positions including Assistant Brigade S-1 at HHC, 1st Brigade, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) and Chief/OIC Personnel Action/G7 at AG Co PSB. Prior to leaving Fort Campbell in 2006, she deployed for the second time in September 2005 to Iraq as a Battalion Adjutant with HHC, 1STB, 1st BCT, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT).
Upon leaving Fort Campbell, Burden PCSd to Fort Bliss assigned as the G1 for Future Force Integration Directorate, from January 2007-May 2008. Later, she was handpicked to serve as the Company Commander for 6th Brigade Air Defense Artillery from June 2008 – May 2009. After relinquishing command, she attended the Adjutant’s General Captain Career Course from June 2009 - December 2009. Upon graduation, she flew to the Netherlands, assigned as the AFNORTH Battalion S-2/S3. She served in that position for 18 months before becoming the SITCEN Director’s Human Resources Officer from April 2009-July 2013. After leaving the Netherlands, Burden was assigned as the Brigade S-1 for 479th FA Brigade from July 2013 to September 2013. The following month she joined the Army Reserves and served as the Brigade S-1 from October 2013-June 2015 in HHB 6th ADA Brigade, and then as the USAR Sustainment Command Detachment 12 ASC-ARE Senior Human Resources Officer from June 2015-June 2016.
In March 2016, Major Burden was offered and accepted an AGR position as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Truman State University.
Her military education includes: Adjutant’s General Officer Basic Course, Adjutant’s General Captain Career Course, and Air Assault.

Major Burden has two children, Jahleel – 9 and Jade - 7.
