David McKamie has established a successful career as both a performing artist and a music educator. His concert appearances have taken him to leading cities in the United States and to Portugal. His awards include first prize in the Amarillo Symphony Competition, as well as honors in the Hemphill-Wells-Sorantin Award and the Wideman Concerto Competition. Recent appearances include solo recitals and master classes as the featured artist at the Amadeus Piano Festival and as the J. Donald Feagin Visiting Artist at the University of Tulsa. He has also appeared in recital at summer music festivals in Povoa de Varzim and Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. McKamie has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Texas, Tennessee, Kansas, and Missouri, and is in demand as a lecture-recitalist and adjudicator for piano events throughout the country. His students have won first prizes in piano competitions in the Midwest. A native of Waco, Texas, David McKamie began piano study with his parents, William and Dorothy McKamie. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.M. and M.M. in piano performance from the University of North Texas, where he was a full scholarship student of Artist-in-Residence Stefan Bardas. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree with highest honors from the University of Kansas, where he studied with Sequeira Costa and Visiting Artist Leon Fleisher. Dr. McKamie is presently Professor of Music at Truman State University where he also serves as Coordinator of Piano.
