Why did you choose Truman?

I chose to attend Truman due to its positive reputation in higher education, and honestly I just loved the campus. It was not too small, where it would remind me of high school, yet not too big, where I would become just another number. Additionally, I knew coming to Truman would provide me with a great academic experience without a great hole in my pocket!

Why did you choose your major?

I chose my Communication degree because I love interacting with people! I have always been interested in the way we communicate, and knew that pursuing a degree that I had interest in would benefit me in the long run. With that said, all of the job positions I have been looking into have aligned perfectly with my major.

Now that you are a student, what do you like most about being a Truman student?

I have loved the community that Truman has provided me as a Truman student! Through my four years here at Truman, I made the most wonderful friends, and it was all due to the student organizations that Truman provides. Now I have friendships I know will last me a lifetime.

What piece of advice would you give to first-year students?

If I were talking to a first-year student, I would stress to them to get involved. You will not learn more about yourself, grow more interpersonally, or obtain more friendships if you do not put yourself out there, and find a passion/organization that you love. Sitting in your dorm room all day, working on homework 24/7 will not bring you happiness or growth. Get involved and learn more about yourself!

What is your best or favorite experience of your first year at Truman?

My favorite experience of my first year at Truman would be getting involved in Campus Christian Fellowship and meeting some of the coolest upperclassmen! My three freshman friends and I would walk over to our senior friends’  house and play games, watch movies, and socialize until the early hours of the morning. In high school I rarely stayed up past 12, and during my freshman year, I definitely stayed up ‘till four in the morning making some of the most fun memories of my life.

What is your favorite thing about living in Kirksville?

There are many things that I love about Kirksville. First off, I love the Kirksville community! This has been my home for the past four years, and while I thought living in a smaller community would bore me after awhile, it never did! This community has become my home, and I love all the small-town vibes it has to offer. And honestly, I love the thrift stores here, too. I know that sounds so lame, but thrifting is so much fun when most of the clothes are only a dollar or two! I owe all of my cozy flannels to the Kirksville thrift stores.
